Auroral Floral Natasha Nguyen's designs are adventurous, modern, and earth-friendly; she's got your proposal, elopement, and/or big luxe wedding covered. She has extensive knowledge of flowers, gardens, and SoCal living so she's the go-to girl for MTG couples with flowery fantasies in mind. 310.993.4291 or natasha at auroralfloral dot com.
Jackie Dumouchel Combs, Lotus and Lily Floral Design Jackie's work is the most lush and lovely out there, and it's not just flowers--she offers custom event designs replete with linens and specialty rentals to create a complete and splendiferous environmental look. I love her work; the "fairy tale" wedding she created for an MTG couple at Calamigos was so delightfully filled with small details (including glowing fairy orbs floating over the arbored aisle) that we were all drawn into its magic. 818.515.3499 or jackie at lotusandlily dot com.
Peony and Plum Susan Tom-Nellis and David Auch power this Westside team and (thankfully) they're everywhere. I can always tell when I walk into a Peony and Plum wedding; I'm always struck by the fresh ideas and beauty of their work. Susan's art and design background result in striking yet natural-looking bouquets and decor, "where traditional elements live happily alongside the unexpected." 310.740.2570 or info at peonyandplum dot com.
Flower Duet The delightful thing about Casey Schwartz and Kit Wertz--the sisters who own, operate, and teach at Flower Duet--is their abiding love of floral work and their generosity in sharing what they know. Yes, they design and build florals for weddings and events, but also lead classes and tours for those who want to learn DIY floral design (I've taken their holiday wreath and wedding bouquet classes, and both were great). They also offer tons of free and valuable info via their website and newsletters. If nothing else, you should take one of their classes so you can appreciate what a wedding florist goes through to make a wedding day spectacular, and take your intended, the family, and your bridal party along (they teach private and custom group classes, too). 310.792.4968 or info at flowerduet dot com.
Primary Petals Samantha Santana has this crazy great eye-popping color sense, and was one of the first people I saw using succulents to beautiful effect. You can see some of what I'm talking about with this Dia de los Muertos wedding we worked at MOLAA, or just check out the "Color Theory" posts on her blog. Gives me that delish "summer vacation" feeling just looking at them. Primarypetals@gmail.com or 818.383.1550.
Century City Flower Market–Floral Designs and Event Planner I was incredibly impressed by the fantastic work of Century City Flower Market, especially since the day I first encountered them they were (through no fault of their own) completely under the schedule gun. Not only was the floral design amazing and perfectly realized, but they erected the entire elaborate display–including hung vines and arrangements, piping, drapes, pedestals, and more–in half the agreed-upon time. Bravo, guys and ladies. It was truly amazing, and you never would have known it didn't take all day. These folks are pros. 310.277.6737 or 1.800.576.7372
Lorelei–Florals and Events By Design Lorelei comes from England and though she (like most Brits) loves the California climate, she misses the gardens of home. This love of flowers and gardens drives her work, and you'll see the inspiration in her dedication to quality and lovely presentation. Lest you think "English Garden" is all she can do, I saw her create modernistic wedding arrangements at the Hotel Roosevelt that were so spectacular, any contempo-design freak would feel all hip inside just sitting next to them. 805.551.6970 or email via the website for a consultation.
Ikebana by Noriko Naruishi Mar Vista ikebana teacher Noriko Naruishi will design and create ikebana florals for your wedding or event; she also teaches Wednesdays and Saturdays if you would like to try your hand at this ancient Japanese art form. Her work is eye-catching but subtle, drawing the viewer in for contemplation, and demonstrates a love of nature, harmony, and balance–perfect for a sophisticated wedding. Call her at 310.403.3612 to inquire or email her at nnikebana@yahoo.com.
