CALIFORNIA CONFIDENTIAL MARRIAGE LICENSING

Here in California we have a unique set of marriage laws that authorizes some notaries to issue confidential marriage licenses. A confidential marriage license bestows the exact same legal status as a regular "public" license, but can only be issued to currently cohabiting couples.

Do We Need A Witness?

If you qualify for a confidential marriage license, you don't need a witness to sign. You can elope without anyone else there (except your officiant, of course) and you don't have to be a resident of California to apply. You do need to be living together, however; you can see all the requirements here.

Do We Need To Go To the County Clerk's Office?

Confidential marriage licenses are convenient because they can be privately issued outside of County Clerk hours at your chosen location, so you don't have to make a trip to the Clerk's office. It's a big time-saver for your elopement or destination wedding.

Can We Get Married The Same Day With A Confidential Marriage License?

There's no waiting period for marriage in California, and since I'm authorized to both issue confidential marriage licenses and conduct wedding ceremonies, you can receive your license and have your ceremony the same day--everything you need for a complete legal marriage. It's called "The Wedding Bundle" and it's our most popular service.
